Drama Assistant About the Park School The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA, dedicated to excellence in education. The Drama Assistant is a member of the school’s Upper and Lower Division and reports to the Division Heads. This part-time, exempt, 8-month position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to support the Drama Teacher in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The working hours for this position are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:45 p.m. through 4:45 p.m. Additional weekend and after school hours will be required for production. Responsibilities Assist with three mainstage productions, supporting and collaborating with the drama teacher. Facilitate warm-ups and games with students. Assigning small groups to run scenes or work on characterization Lead art projects by working on props, puppets, set painting, etc. Provide oversight to the students during, snack time, rehearsals, and performances Complete administrative tasks and coverage duties as assigned (student supervision, attendance, reporting, note taking, making copies documenting curriculum, etc.) Meet students at their developmental level and guide them in maintaining behavior standards by redirecting and reinforcing student safety and conduct, adhering to school policies while fostering positive student engagement Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, school duties, and activities such as clubs and assemblies Other duties as assigned Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required. Two (2) or more years of teaching or drama experience Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community. Motivation for and interest in professional development Ability to think independently and collaborate in a team environment Skill in differentiating instruction ​​High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality Maintain focus, adaptability, and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner. The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet) Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc. Physical Requirements: The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30-minute periods of time. The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.). The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. The ability to position oneself (e.g., stand, sit, crouch, and kneel) to support students. The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions. The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.
